Volunteer role descriptions

Retail volunteers

Volunteers are sought to help with selling Susan's Farm produce at Farmers' Markets, events and pop up stalls. If you like people and you are enthusiastic about "you are what you eat ", the importance of eating locally sourced organic produce and enjoy cooking this could be the ideal volunteering opportunity for you!

Training can be given.

Winter feeding volunteers.

Most winters we need volunteers to feed and check our stock in the fields, at Armathwaite and Houghton. This is to cover staff time off at weekends. Hay is fed using a quad bike (training given - over 16's only). Instructions on checking stock also given. Volunteers may apply for either one or both sites if they have transport.

Our ideal volunteer:

  • Available, preferably on a regular basis at weekends during the winter but occasional weekends may also be helpful.
  • Reliable as our animals' welfare depends upon it.
  • Confident and physically able to work alone with Longhorn cattle once training given.
  • Live locally to Armathwaite or Houghton or have own transport. Volunteering at both sites possible. Out of pocket expenses could be covered.
  • Over 16 for riding quad bike.

For general farm volunteer, please contact ruth@susansfarm.co.uk or 01228 548336

School visit volunteer

One of our popular topics, 'Gather, Prepare, Cook & Eat', requires lots of hands on deck when it comes to serving time.

Food hygiene training will be given and each volunteer is risk assessed for DBS requirements.

If you hare handy in the kitchen, this might be the role for you.
